Save your natural tooth with precision.

Root canal treatment is usually a straightforward procedure that will relieve dental pain and save your teeth. Millions of teeth are treated and saved every year with root canals, also known as endodontic treatment. A patient will typically need a root canal when there is inflammation or infection in the roots of a tooth.

A root canal infection occurs when decay reaches a tooth’s inner pulp or when a bacterial infection develops inside a tooth or at its root tip. Root canal infections have many symptoms, such as:

  • Intense toothache
  • Temperature sensitivities
  • Tender and swollen gums
  • Abscess on the gums

When having a root canal, your tooth, and the surrounding area will be numb. An opening will be made in the crown of the tooth. Small dental instruments will be used to clean the pulp from inside of the pulp chamber and root canals and to shape the space for filling. After the space is cleaned and shaped, the root canals will be filled with a biocompatible material. Your tooth will be protected with a temporary crown, and you will return on your next appointment for a permanent crown or other restoration to protect your tooth and restore it to full function.
